New dates announced for GrindTec 2020
GrindTec 2020 will now take place from 11th to 13th November in the Augsburg Exhibition Centre

The new date for the GrindTec 2020 has been found: the world’s leading trade fair for grinding technology will take place from November 11th to 13th at the Augsburg Exhibition Centre.

This means that the sequence of days the industry wanted, namely, starting on a Tuesday and ending on a Friday, could also be achieved.

GrindTec is the most important platform for the grinding technology sector worldwide. Particularly in economically challenging times, the industry needs this event, which contributes significantly to the promotion of exports.

In close coordination with the authorities and municipal offices responsible for the current situation concerning the spread of the coronavirus, and taking into account the recommended actions for major events provided by the Robert Koch Institute, trade fair organiser AFAG decided on Sunday, March 1st, to postpone the GrindTec 2020 until autumn. This decision was backed and endorsed by the event’s technical sponsor FDPW – Precision Toolmakers Trade Association, as well as by the fair’s Advisory Board and by other large GrindTec exhibitors. The City of Augsburg and the responsible administrative districts have also lent their support to the move.

Henning and Thilo Könicke, managing directors of trade fair organiser AFAG Messen und Ausstellungen state: “We’re pleased that we can inform our partners, exhibitors and visitors of a new date for the GrindTec 2020 at short notice and thus can already give them some certainty for their planning. We’re delighted that the world’s leading trade fair for grinding technology can continue to stay in Augsburg and would like to thank the City of Augsburg for their support with the short-term implementation. In determining this new date, we’ve taken particular care to ensure that the event does not clash with other events in the sector. We believe that we have found the best possible date under the current circumstances.”

Starting with the next event in 2022, the GrindTec will again take place at its traditional date in March.

Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Uwe Schmidt, President of the FDPW – Precision Toolmakers Trade Association comments: “It’s very impressive how the GrindTec decision-makers have worked under a great deal of pressure on a solution. The professionalism with which they have factored in all eventualities is remarkable. Now, with this new date, everyone gets back the planning security they’re used to in connection with GrindTec. We can now eagerly look forward to the autumn of 2020.”

Prof. Dr. Wilfried Saxler, managing director of the FDPW – Precision Toolmakers Trade Association adds: “The postponement of an international trade fair is a decision not taken lightly. There are many parameters that have to be taken into account. I’m very pleased that it was possible to find a new date for the GrindTec 2020 so quickly. The best thing about it is that it will take place at its usual location in Augsburg. A big thank you goes to all those involved for their great cooperation and quick action.”

Dr. Claus Itterheim, ISBE GmbH comments: “In my dual function, as representative of the supporting members in the FDPW, as well as exhibitor at GrindTec, I can only welcome the postponement at this time.”

Gunnar Grecksch, Geschäftsführer VDS – Verband Deutscher Schleifmittelwerke e.V. says: “The Association of German Abrasive Manufacturers (VDS) welcomes the postponement of the GrindTec. Against the background of increasing uncertainty among exhibitors and visitors, this was absolutely the right decision. The member companies of the VDS are already looking forward to a successful GrindTec in November 2020.”

Jochen Wagner, MAW Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH adds: “The rapid spread of the corona virus to Europe made it necessary to postpone GrindTec, the leading international trade fair for grinding technology. We expressly welcome this decision, so that the GrindTec in autumn can be held successfully and with a large influx of visitors, as usual.”

Marcus Steudel, J. SCHNEEBERGER Maschinen GmbH comments: “Due to the official requirements and considering the circumstances, it was absolutely the right decision to postpone Grind Tec. We are looking forward to a great fair in November and are sure to be there.”
