Walter installs assembly flow line and reduces delivery times

Walter s.r.o has installed a new assembly line with streamlined work flows that result in shorter machine build lead times and therefore reduced delivery times at its Kuřim site in the Czech Republic.

The Walter Helitronic Power and Helitronic Mini Power tool grinders are currently being produced on the line and it is planned that the Helitronic Vision 400 L will be added later this year.

Construction of the multi-million Euro project took just 14 weeks, involving the installation of a 90-metre long continuously moving conveyor belt that spans the complete assembly facility and travels directly into the shipping department.

Component assembly has been reorganised to align with the new ‘fishbone’ layout of workpiece/materials feed into the line, where the appropriate parts are directed to the various workstations when needed. Once a machine has passed through the 18 assembly stations, it is immediately packed and despatched to the customer.

At the official opening of the new line Jürgen Schock, CEO of Walter Maschinenbau GmbH, welcomed a group of 40 invited guests who also heard project manager Markus Schulze describe the assembly line project.
